Trust to honour music scholar

       Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Memorial Trust will honour Thiruppampuram S Shanmugasundaram, former principal of Government Music College, with a cash prize of Rs one lakh for his service to Tamil music.

        Announcing this at a press meet yes-terday, A R Ramaswamy, honorary secretary of the trust, said Madras High Court Chief Justice A P Shah would give away the prize to Shanmugasundram on the 127th birth anniversary celebrations of Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar in Chennai on 30 September.

        Interestingly, it is also the birthday of the patron of the trust, Dr M A M Ramaswamy, MP, he said.

        Ramaswamy said a three-member selection committee comprising eminent personalities had selected Shanmugasundram for the honour.

        He also said Ramaswamy, president of the trust M A M R Muthiah, Director of Tamil Development, government of Tamilnadu, M Rajendran will participate in the function.

        A Tamil music concert has also been planned as part of the birth anniversary celebrations, he added.
