Chennai, Sept 25:
In view of continuing attacks on the Saffron outfits in Tamilnadu on the Vedanti fatwa issue, Chief Minister M Karunanihi today reiterated restraint to his party cadres and allies. He cautioned that if this issue was magnified it may derail the Sethusamudram Project.
In a statement here, Karunanidhi said that communal forces were trying to stall the Sethu project by invoking a religious issue. 'By stoking communal frenzy and by causing a deterioration of law and order situation they are looking for scapegoats. Hence our workers and allies should exercise caution,' he said.
He explained that as they were in power both in the State and at the Centre they should be on guard. 'They are trying to bring a bad name to the government,' he said and alleged that the remarks of Vedanti were part of efforts in that direction.
If this (Vedanti's remarks)
was taken as a big issue, the Sethusamudram project may get stalled. 'Hence,
all should be cautious and work towards educating the masses on the sinister
motives of communal forces,' the Chief Minister said.
