Recognising leadership among IT workforce

Chennai, Nov 25:

Cognizant Technology Solutions CEO N Lakshminarayanan being felicitated with For the Sake of Honour Award by Larsen & Toubro ECC division head K V Rangaswami at a function organised by the Rotary Club of Madras T Nagar in the city yesterday.

Rotary Club's highest award to recognise vocational excellence, For the Sake of Honour, was presented to N Lakshminarayanan, president and CEO, Cognizant Technology Solutions, for his leadership role in the IT sector.

At a function organised by Rotary Club of Madras T Nagar yesterday, K V Rangaswami, head, Construction, ECC division of Larsen & Toubro, gave away the foremost award for non-Rotarian to CTS chief and said it was a personal honour for him to felicitate an 'illustrious IT man.'

Unlike other awards and titles of Rotary Club, this title was given only to deserving people who had contributed immensely in their chosen fields, he said. CTS had grown to its present status, as the fourth largest IT services company in India, mostly because of Lakshminarayan's leadership in that company which he had established a few years ago with Chennai as its headquarters. Stating the CEO was a role model for IT executives, Rangaswami explained in spite of launching his company 15 years behind top firms like Wipro, TCS and Infosys, Lakshminarayanan was able to match up to other IT giants through rapid growth of his company, though he had to face trials and tribulations in the process.

In his acceptance speech, Lakshminarayan said the credit should go to his staff at CTS who had taken the company forward. 'We have just seen first few years of a 30-year IT boom in this country. And a 10-fold growth is waiting to happen in the decades. Hence, it was not too late for those who want to invest and participate in growth of offshoring and IT services,' he declared.

At CTS, there was a constant motivation to learn to build up the company, even as 'we honour talent and performance which had resulted in spontaneous growth.' Stressing on leadership qualities among young IT workforce, he said the company trained and educated its staff throughout for achieving results. CTS recently crossed $1 billion in its global revenue and currently employs 35,000 professionals across the world covering major IT markets.

Rotary Club of Madras T Nagar president V Vasudevan provided the welcome address.
