In a bid to capture the urban customers, Reliance Retail Ltd yesterday entered Chennai market by launching 12 stores across the city.
Aptly christened as 'Reliance Fresh', each outlet is spread across 1200 to 3500 sq ft with each outlet manned by 15-20 trained sales persons.
At a press meet, Gunender Kapur, president, Agri Business, RRL, said, 'Reliance Fresh would have stores in all the neighbourhood areas of Chennai targeting 3000 households and added that the company already has 28 stores in Hyderabad and Jaipur. Within the next 4-5 years, the company would expand its network with an investment of Rs 25,000 crore.
Expressing hope that they would have Pan-India presence with these retail outlets, he said that the company their retail outlets would deliver a win-win partnership with farmers and customers with affordability, quality, choice and services. Through this initiative employment opportunities would grow both sides.
About 150 items are available in fruits and vegetables which would be brought from their distribution centre located suburban Puzhal.
V V Naga Prasad, chief executive, customer operations-Tamilnadu region said that the outlets would have packaged, processed foods, staples, top-up groceries and dairy products.
For non-veggies there is a separate section at certain outlets, he said adding about 10 collection centres would be in Chennai initially.
There is a loyalty programme
for consumers who can become members instantly at the store while they
shop and can earn 'Reliance One Point' for every Rs 100 spent.
