Tsunami-affected to get houses

        Mata Amrithananda Mayi popularly known as the hugging saint will be handing over a symbolic key of the last batches of houses, built for tsunami-affected people of Nagapattinam, to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the 31 January in a public function at Nagapattinam.

        This programme would be a part of Amma's twenty-day tour, which would also include a public darshan, at Chennai on the 27 January at the Pachaiyappa's College grounds, which is expected to witness the launching of the various charitable activities in Tamilnadu.

        This would be followed by the singing of bhajans, satsang and darshan of the saint from Kerala.

        In the morning and evening of 29 January there would be a darshan of Amma at the Mata Amrithanandamayi math, Arcot road, Virugambakkam.

        It may be noted that the Mata Amrithanandamayi math has built about four thousand permanent houses in Kerala, Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Sri Lanka for those affected by the tsunami.

        'A galaxy of personalities such as noted agricultural expert M S Swaminathan, Anna University vice chancellor D Vishwanath, medical baron Prathap Reddy and cancer specialist Shantha are expected to have a darshan of Amma during her Chennai visit,' said

        K Venkatraman, president of the Chennai chapter of the math while briefing the press here yesterday.

        He also said that around 200 buses would be deployed for ferrying the passengers to the venue of the darshan in Chennai.
