Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today shot a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh seeking the Centre to consider reduction of excise duty on diesel by a minimum of Rs one per litre to help reduce the spiralling of prices of essential commodities.
In the letter, a copy of
which which was released to the press today, Karunanidhi said that considering
the recent inflationary trends, the excise duty and levy on diesel, which
is currently at Rs 4.98 per litre needs to be reduced to bring down the
diesel prices. Reduction of excise duty on diesel price would help checking
the spiralling inflation, he said.
