It was black all the way for opposition AIADMK and its ally MDMK as they attended the Assembly today wearing black outfits. Men came in black shirts while women in black sarees.
This was to press for the demand seeking resignation of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin owning responsibility for the violence during the Chennai Corporation polls.
Even before the commencement of Assembly proceedings, the AIADMK and MDMK members shouted slogans against the government on Corporation poll issue.
For the fifth consecutive day, they staged a walkout demanding resignation of Karunanidhi and Stalin and departmental action against DGP D Mukherjee, Chennai City Police Commissioner Letika Saran and Additional Commissioner S R Jangid and State Election Commissioner D Chandra-sekaran.
AIADMK MLAs P K Sekar Babu, K Hari, Senthil Balaji, Vjaya-kumar, Radhakrishnan and Velumani went near the well of the House and raised slogans. And Speaker R Avudai-yappan ordered eviction of the six MLAs. However, the MLAs walked out of the House.
Later speaking to reporters,
Deputy Leader of Opposition O Panneerselvam said that they would continue
the agitation till their demands were met. He demanded that re-election
should be held for all the 155 wards of Chennai Corporation deploying army
for security.
