As much as 40 per cent of children in Tamilnadu suffer from dyslexia. And awareness in this regard is necessary, so government, non- governmental organisations and media should play an important role in spreading awareness, C R Ravichandran, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-I & Cadre Controlling Authority, Chennai, has said
He was speaking at a public awareness meeting in Chennai yesterday on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Autism & Learning Difficulty (LD) in children for parents, teachers and health professionals.
Ravichandran said the doctors also should provide proper treatment for dyslexia. Establishment of multi- clinics comprising specialists form various branches like speech therapy, neurology and psychiatry would be proper as the treatment for this involves co-ordination of various branches of medicine.
Dr P Perumalsamy, director
of Teacher Education Research & Training, Chennai, presiding over the
meeting, said school-going children comprised one-fourth of the State population
and some of them were suffering from problems like autism, LD and ADHD.
Lack of awareness in this regard is a matter of concern, he added.
