        The State general secretary of Yadhava Mahasabha Pandimani was hacked to death by a four-member gang in broad daylight at Thiruvottriyur today.

        Police suspect the murder to be a fallout of a group clash in the recently concluded Corporation re-elections.

        Pandimani (35), residing at Chinna Mettupalayam at Thiruvottriyur, had come out of his house to go to a nearby shop when the gang with deadly weapons attacked him.

        Raising an alarm, Pandimani ran for his life but the gang chased him and inflicted severe bleeding injuries on him.

        Locals took Pandimani to Stanley Government Hospital where he was declared dead. He is survived by wife, a daughter and a son.

        Following the murder, tension prevailed in Thiruvottriyur and several shops downed their shutters.

        Senior police officials rushed to the spot and sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts were pressed into service.

        A manhunt is on to apprehend the murderers.
