        Two persons, including a student, were killed and two others injured as a tipper lorry mowed them down when they were waiting for a bus at Keeraipakkam near Thirukazhukundram.

        According to police, some people were waiting at Keeraipakkam bus stand at around 7.30 am when a speeding tipper lorry hit them and fell into a ditch nearby. Srinivasan (45) died on the spot, school students Saravanan (11), Karthik and Baskar, were severely injured and admitted to Government Chengalpet Hospital. While Saravanan died on the way to the hospital the two others were undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.

        On learning the news, the PMK MLA Thirukachur Arumugham along with his party men rushed to the spot and staged a dharna, demanding compensation from the government to the kin of deceased and those injured. Traffic was disrupted from 9 am and 10 am owing to the road- roko.

        Thirukazhukundram police pacified the MLA, the demonstrators and have launched a hunt for the lorry driver who’s absconding.
