        In a gruesome incident early this morning, a former AIADMK area secretary was hacked to death at Choolaimedu creating tension and spread a wave of panic among the local people.

        Special police teams have been formed to apprehend the killers, in what seems to be a murder due to previous enmity.

        Police said a gang of three men on motorcycles waylaid Chinnakannan (42), the former AIADMK leader and attacked him with long knives.

        At around 4.45 am, Chinnakannan, a resident of Bhajanai Koil Street, Choolaimedu, was returning home on a motorbike when he was encircled by the hit men. He fell down after he was attacked, and he died on the spot.

        After completing their job, the perpetrators of the crime left the scene quietly, leaving the public shell-shocked.

        Senior police officials including Deputy Commissioner Ramasubramani, and Assistant Commissioner Murali rushed to the spot as soon as they were alerted by the local people.

        The body of Chinnakannan has been sent for post-mortem to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

        The AIADMK man is said to be involved in a murder case in year 2003. Preliminary and reports indicate that enmity is likely to be the cause of murder.

        Meanwhile, the police are investigating about the identity of assailants. Five special police parties have been formed to investigate the case and bring the culprits to book.
