        Congress president Sonia Gandhi had assured the DMK and its leaders that communal threats from VHP and other Hindu outfits would be dealt with through a ‘unified approach’ and the government would continue to work for the nation’s development without any fear.

        In a telephonic chat with Union Shipping and Highways Minister T R Baalu last night, Sonia Gandhi said the government would not be cowed down by such threats and challenges from fundamentalist outfits. She was responding to the letter written by the Minister yesterday asking her to clamp down on Hindu organisations like VHP and leaders like Ram Vilas Vedanti who had issued a ‘fatwa’ against Chief M Karunanidhi for his controversial remarks on Lord Ram and Ram Sethu.
