Chennai, Sept 24:
Continuing their protest against Sun TV, cable TV operators today staged a fast in all the district headquarters of the State.
It may be noted that the cable TV operators throughout the State blacked out the telecast of Sun TV yesterday in protest against the launch of Sun DTH service.
Over 50,000 cable operators across the State organised demonstrations and fast to protest this morning. In Chennai, the fast was led by Shakilan, president, Tamizhaga Cable TV Operators General Welfare Association.
Speaking to News Today, Shakilan, said, ‘we are protesting against the ‘evil intentions’ of Sun TV. They want to wipe out cable TV operators.’
He said that wherever the control rooms of SCV, the cable arm of the Sun TV, were operating, the cable TV operators have decided to set up a parallel control room with immediate effect. ‘We will offer cable TV services at Rs 75 and beam 75 channels to the consumers until Arasu Cable TV Corporation comes into being. We will immediately join it’.
The operators would stop
paying the monthly subscription for the pay channels to the SCV (amounting
to Rs 12 crore every month) beginning October’, he added.
