YOUNG CHAMP: Team Rams Racing owners Vivekanandan,  Ravi and Parasuram with Ashwin Sunder.

        Controlled driving added to skills paid off as Ashwin Sundar sealed his rivals’ chances of becoming national champion in two of three classes — (Formula Hyundai and Formula Swift) with two more races (one leg) to go to be declared as the Most Valued Performer of the JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship.

        Credit for Ashwin’s exploits should go to the tuning skills of Parasuram, owner of Rams Racing.

        In the fifth and penultimate round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship 2007 at the Madras Motor Race Track in Sriperumbudur near here yesterday, Ashwin Sundar clinched the championship titles in both Formula Hyundai and Formula Swift categories with emphatic wins.

        The first race in the Formula Rolon class saw Chennai lad Aditya Patel of Team NK Racing making it a start to finish affair despite the fighting efforts of Gaurav Dalal of Team Amaron WSRF. Gaurav had to settle for a second place finish while Rayomand Banajee of Team Prime Racing who started 4th on the grid finished third.

        It was a different story in the second race as Aditya and Gaurav were penalised 20 seconds each for a foul start and thereby made way for Saahil Shelar (Amaron WSFR), Ajay Kini (Amaron WSFR) and Sarosh Hataria (Prime Racing) to finish on the podium in that order.

        The highlight of the first race in the Formula Hyundai class was Ashwin Sundar starting ninth and last on the grid and showing superb driving skills to finish on top of the heap. Karthik Shankar of Team WSRF with Leela and Rayomand Banajee of Team Gemini Racing finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Ill luck spoilt Ashwin’s chances in the second race, which sawRayomand Banajee, Karthik Shankar and Anand Prasad finish in that order on the podium.

        Formula LGB Swift Race I 1. Saran Vikram, 2. Ajay Kini , 3. Karthik Shankar. Race II: 1. Karthik Shankar, 2. Ashwin Sundar, 3. Saran Vikram.
