        The Madras High Court today declined to stay the release of Periyar, a movie on the rationalist leader. A petition was filed by one Kannan of Hindu Makkal Katchi seeking a stay on the movie's release..

        He had contended in his petition that the movie has a song in which Hindu God Rama and Goddess Sita have been described in bad taste, so he prayed against the release of the movie until the song was removed from the film.

        The petition came up for hearing before a Division Bench comprising Justice A P Shah and Justice K Chandru. They dismissed it stating that Censor Board had not expressed any reservations for the song and two women members who had censored the film also found nothing wrong in the song.
