Chennai, Feb 24:

Arun Kumar Tiwari, director, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO),
addressing students at a symposium Aerofest 2007 organised by Hindustan Institute of
Engineering Technology in Chennai yesterday.

President Abdul Kalam's advice in his book Wings of Fire — Patience and gratitude are the two wings which would make an individual achieve higher — was recalled at the two-day symposium Aerofest 2007 organised by Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology (HIET) here yesterday.

Arun Kumar Tiwari, director, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and co-author of that book, provided some fruitful tips and useful messages to youngsters on how to shape up their minds in a lecture on You are Born to Blossom. He asked students to live in harmony with others and show dedication in whatever discipline they have chosen.

Later Ramakant Singh, deputy director at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and an alumni of HIET, recalled his memories at the alma mater and spoke on its founder-chairman K C G Verghese.

Elizabeth Verghese, chairperson, Hindustan group of institutions, explained the college was involved in a pioneering work in aerospace and a series of programmes, including seminars and technical sessions, would commence shortly. Aerospace experts and students would present technical papers and demonstrations at these workshops. An exhibition on aerospace was inaugurated at the premises of Hindustan College by Nirmal Singh Munday, former deputy director at the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
