Chennai, Feb 24:
The thoughts and dreams of special children came to life on paper in a splash of colours. The tiny tots turned into professional artists, thinking high on the usage of colours to give a reality look for their imagination.
These vivacious paintings marked the order of the day at the painting competition held exclusively for the special children at Lady Nye MRT- special higher secondary school in Pallipattu, here yesterday.
The atmosphere wore a vibrant look as the special children were vying with their peers to bring out the best.
Organised by Madras Round Table No 1, around 150 children from about 11 schools gave a tint to their thoughts.
The participants were categorised into physically challenged, hearing and speech impaired, mentally challenged, spastic and cerebral palsy.
The participants came from various schools that include Andhra Mahila Sabha, Spastic Society of Tamilnadu, ICCW, Bala Vihar, Seva Samajam, Luis Sagar School, Pathway Cheshire Home and Clark School.
Those in the age group of six to eight years sketched on the topic animal, whereas the other two categories for nine to twelve, thirteen years and above painted on the topic nature and dreams.
'I chose to draw parrots because I like them a lot', said S Sumathi, a mentally retarded student from Balavihar in Kilpauk Garden, whose drawing was found to be very appealing.
It was the magical show that won applause from the children.
Presiding over the function, noted actor Arvind Swamy gave away the prizes to the winners.
Rahul, co-ordinator of the
event, said that the main purpose of organising such programmes is to encourage
the special children to come out with their individual skills. He added.
