        The Tamilnadu State Election Commission has thanked the officials, employees, media and political parties for conducting the bypolls of the Chennai Corporation in a peaceful manner.

        In a press release, SEC said bypolls for 100 wards of the Corporation were held following the resignations of elected councillors. As many as 416 candidates filed their nominations and of them, 33 candidates were elected unopposed. The elections for remaining 67 divisions were held on 18 February and results for the same were declared on 20 February.

        Also, 10 government officials were appointed as election observers for the 10 zones of the Corporation in which bypolls were held and five flying-squads monitored the polling booths to ensure free and fair elections, the release said.
