        In a bizarre incident, a man's thumb was bitten by his brother-in-law and the vital part got cut off in the impact. Family squabble is said to be the reason for the freakish incident which happened near Tambaram.

        According to police, Subramani, a resident of East Tambaram gave his daughter Jegadambal in marriage to Ramadas last year. It is said that Jegadambal, who came to her parents house three months back never returned to her in-laws house.

        Yesterday, Ramdas went to his father-in-law and asked him to send his daughter along with him. But his father-in-law turned down his plea and also asked him stay in his house.

        A war of words ensued and in a fit of rage, Anbu, brother of Jedambal bit his brother-in-law's thumb which got severed and fell apart. In the melee, a dog took away the severed thumb and ran away.

        The victim was later rushed to Government Stanley Hospital.

        Selaiyur police have registered a case and are investigating.
