In a recruitment drive organised by the Tamilnadu State- level placement programme of the Anna University, 579 engineering candidates received offer letter on the varsity premises here today.
Speaking during the programme, Vice-Chancellor of Anna University Vishwanathan urged the students to be committed to developing the nation with determined patriotism along with ethical values.
Demanding the co-operation of the parents and the students in implementing disciplinary action especially ban on mobile phones, he said that it was done only for the improvement of the students.
He also said recruiting companies were able to select only 30 per cent of the candidates who appeared for the drive which clearly indicates the lack of communicative skills of the students.
'The students would have to develop their English language skills and other talents to make them employable', he added.
P Mannar Jawahar, director of the Centre for Industry-University Collaboration through which the drive was organised, said that of 19,200 candidates, 576 were selected through 23 interviews conducted in Chennai, Salem, Coimbatore, Tiruchy and Madurai.
Major IT companies including
Wipro, TCS, Cybermedia process, CTS etc participated in the programme and
totally 3,300 candidates had been selected so far, he added.
