Sir,
One wonders whether we are ruled by Vatican or UPA. I am referring to the 'Cross' on the two rupee coin.
Cross has many meanings. Crossing is very important for bankers. A/c paying cross-ing, non-negotiable cross-ing and ordinary cross-ing.
Unmanned railway level-cross-ings pose a lot of danger to human lives. Many lives are when other vehicles try to cross the incoming train.
Cross-ing is dangerous.
Senior citizens face lot of diffculties in cross-ing busy roads. Many lives are lost while cross-ing the busy roads.
Cross-ing swords was a pastime with the medievel kings. Crossing swords took the precious lives of many warriors.
Long time married couple are always at 'cross' with each other. Perhaps familiarity breeds contempt.
The prince is criss-cross-ing UP while his mother has double-crossed the Indians - in many ways - Bofors, Volcker etc. Now the UPA has double crossed the Indians twice - once through the 2 rupee coin and again by hurting the sentiments of majority community. Long live the CROSS.

Sir,
'Stakes for hares, spoils for hounds' by T R Jawahar in the issue published on 17 March, 2007' exposed the double standards adopted by the Communist parties. The Communists have lost the moral right to call themselves the saviours of the poor or the farmers after shooting down 14 poor farmers and injuring many more, who resisted the acquisition of prime farm lands by companies. If what had happened in West Bengal had taken place in any other state in India, the Communists would have raised the red flag and organised protest rallies on the violation of human rights.
