        DMDK leader Vijayakanth's birthday is to be celebrated as 'Poverty Alleviation Day'. A decision to this effect was taken at the party's advisory meeting held recently.

        Speaking at the meet, Vijayakanth urged the district secretaries of the party to work for strengthening the DMDK at the grassroots- level by visiting villages and interacting with the branch functionaries. He asked the district functionaries to fill up the vacant posts and to intensify party work at all levels.

        It has been decided to distribute welfare assistance to the poor during the birthday celebrations of Vijayakanth.

        Earlier, the Tiruvallur West District functionaries organised an intensive membership campaign.
