Easy vehicular flow is difficult

Chennai, July 23:

CONGESTION: Bumper-to-bumper traffic has now become a regular
scene at Nungambakkam and its neighbourhood.

Driving through Whannels Road at Egmore during the evening hours has become nightmarish for motorists as vehicles parked on both sides of the road block free flow of traffic.

According to motorists, the chaos is basically due to people who come to watch a movie in the nearby theatre.

They park their vehicles in a zig- zag manner which prevents others from passing through, said Ramesh, a motorist.

He said the situation is worse due to heavy flow of traffic from both directions leaving little room to move around and with vehicles parked in such a haphazard manner, it adds to the problem.

The increasing need for adequate space for parking has to be addressed quickly as the rise in number of vehicles has become a cause of concern in the city, he added.

For pedestrians, it is a herculean task work as less space and heavy flow of traffic cause fear.

'We are always on our toes as the danger of being hit by the vehicle cannot be ruled out,' said Lakshmi, a commuter. She was of the opinion that necessary steps should taken to either stop the parking of vehicles here or to take necessary action for making the route a one-way.

There is an equal responsibility for the people who park their vehicles here as they should understand other's problem and act accordingly, she said and added that authorities should be stringent.

Is there any solution which could end the problem? The answer has to come from the people, who park their vehicles and the authorities, who should take necessary steps to avoid further problems.
