Those residing in Nutech Splender on 11th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, are facing a major problem -all because of a giant corporate setting up a vegetable supermarket at the ground floor of their apartment.
Reliance Fresh has been in this location for more than six months. A supermarket in such a residential area will definitely cause parking problems. Apart from this, there are other issues which the residents of Nutech Splender say cause them trouble.
'The customers who come here park their vehicles in a haphazard manner. They also block our entrance thus preventing us a hazzle-free entry,' says Rammohan, secretary, Nutech Splender Flat Owners Association.
Fruits and vegetables for the shop are loaded and unloaded every day. The whole process takes one or two hours. 'A lorry comes in and blocks our way,' says another resident.
Previously, three industrial exhausts were placed behind the shop thus adding to the woes of the residents. After subsequent meetings, two out of the three have been removed.
Briefing about the issue, K V Rajamani, president, Nutech Splender Flat Owners Association, says, 'At a meeting we held, the shop authorities agreed to remove all the blowers, but unfortunately still one blower of 7.5 ton capacity stays intact just below our verandah. The verandah is unusable because it is so hot there. The noise the exhaust creates is irritating. Air pollution through the exhaust is another problem, which needs to be addressed.'
The officials of Reliance retail have a different tale. They assert that they have tried their best to maintain peace with the residents.
J Rajendran, coordinator, Reliance retail, says, 'We have regularised the parking. No-parking boards have been placed in front of the gates. We have shifted two blowers from the ground to the terrace. The third one is negligible and does not cause any problem.'
The officials also say that because the flat authorities did not allow them to use the rear door, they have been using the front door for loading and unloading of the goods.
The place which houses Reliance retail is a rented premises. The landlord of that place says, 'They have promised to remove the blower and also assured that they will avert all other problems. I am sure they will do it.'
The underlying cause for
all the problems is that the CMDA approval should not have been given to
buildings which combine commercial shops in residential areas. That is
what the residents say. Are the authorities listening?
