Seer: Charges framed in assault case

        A Sessions Court here today framed charges against the Kanchi Seer Jayendara Saraswathi and 11 others in the auditor Radhakrishnan assault case.

        The Seer was accused of masterminding the assault on the former auditor of the mutt G Radhakrishnan.

        Assailants had attacked Radha-krishnan, his wife and an attendant with sharp weapons at his residence here on 20 September, 2002.

        In the auditor Radhakrishnan assault case, Kanchi Sankaracharyar Sri Jayendrar including 12 persons have been framed by Sessions Court.

        Radhakrishnan of Mandaveli was a committee member, who complained of misappropriation of fund that was raised for a function held at the mutt in Kanchipuram.

        On 20 September, 2002 Radhakrishnan was attacked by some mysterious men in his Mandaveli residence. Foreshore Estate police had registered a case in this connection and were enquiring.

        Meanwhile the police who were investigating the Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal temple manager Sankararaman murder case investigated the Radhakrishnan assault case too. The police submitted that at the instigation of Sri Jayendrar the assault was perpetrated. First Additional Sessions court was hearing the case.

        It was decided to frame the case under attempt to murder charges including other four sections against Sri Jayendrar, Sankara Mutt manager Sundaresa Iyer, Raghu, Appu, Kathiravan, Meenakshisundasram, Anand, Kumar, Kannan, Ravi Subramaniam, Lakshmanan and Bhoominathan.

        The case came up for hearing today when all the 12 appeared before the court with Ravi Subramaniam turning approver.

        Justice Mohammed Izar Ali framed the charges and registered them. The judge asked Sri Jayendrar whether he has anything to say on the charges. He replied that he was innocent. All others replied the same. Following this, the case was adjourned to 27 August. The judge said from that day within five days all witnesses would be interviewed.
