Conference on Muslim education

        Educational development of minorities and the findings of Sachar Commission would be the focus of the two-day conference on education that began today at the Crescent School in Vandalur, a city suburb.

        Titled 'Excellence in Education: A Door to Opportunity and a Tool to Face Challenges', the conference is being organised by the American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) and the Organisation of Muslim Educational Institutions and Associations of Tamilnadu (OMEIAT).

        The conference with four sessions would deliberate on the Prime Minister's 15-Point Programme for the minorities, the impact of Sachar Commission's report and how it benefited the Muslim community.

        Also, a debate cum discussion on madrasa (seminary) education and the recent move of the Centre to form a Central Madrasa Board would be taken up at the conference.

        Around 200 students are expected to participate from various schools across the State. Apart from this, 100 Muslim students who are school toppers in their States and the other top rankers would be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals on the occasion.
