Traders and manufacturers should cooperate with the Commercial Taxes Department for the effective implementation of Value-Added Tax (VAT), R Aruldas, Commercial Tax Officer (CTO), Guindy Assessment Circle, said today.
Speaking at a VAT awareness campaign organised jointly by the Assessment Circle of Guindy and Saidapet here, Aruldas said the States where VAT was implemented in the last fiscal had registered an increase in tax revenue to the tune of 40 per cent.
He said traders could avail input tax credit on the purchase of inputs.
He also denied the speculation of price rise of essential commodities due to introduction of VAT in the State.
About 250 traders and manufacturers
from the circles attended the campaign. Seetharaman, CTO of Adyar-1, Sumathy,
CTO of Saidapet and Muthu, Deputy Commercial Tax Officer of Guindy also
took part.
