'Bishop' Anandharaj set to face the music

NT Bureau
Chennai, Dec 23:

After priest Yobu Saravanan's misdemeanours which led to his being arrested, it is the turn of disgraced Bishop Anandharaj to face the music now.

Anandhraj was arrested recently for cheating building contractors by promising that he would construct houses for the poor, free of cost, with funds from abroad.

Police sources say Anandharaj would be taken to Bangalore for a lie-detector test to find whether he had links with Yobu Saravanan, against whom 650 cases have been filed for reportedly amassing over Rs 100 crore by cheating several building contractors.

It may be recalled that Anandharaj had constructed a church at Nemmeli village on the East Coast Road some years ago and proclaimed himself to be a bishop. He had entered into agreements with contractors, promising to construct houses for the poor, with funds collected from abroad.

The contractors who came to know about Anandharaj's motives, demanded return of their money. Several cases were filed against Anandharaj. Investigations revealed that Anandharaj had collected over Rs 100 crore by cheating contractors.

CB-CID police are planning to visit Andhra Pradesh and Kerala for further investigations.
