People urged to fight pollution

        Protecting the environment from pollution should be considered as the fundamental duty of an individual, State Additional Secretary of Finance, J Radhakrishnan has said.

        Speaking on saving the planet from global warming, organised jointly by Exnora International and Sri Krishna Sweets, on Thursday, he said that human beings play a major role in the occurrence of natural disasters.

        Stressing the importance of protecting the environment, Radhakrishnan said that there is a need for active participation from the people in bringing out a solution to the social problems.

        He also launched 'cool the globe campaign' to create awareness on the issues of global warming.

        Environmental activist Tara Murali said that the government should involve more show seriousness in bringing about policies to reduce the intensity of pollution.

        She said that public transport systems like buses had to be increased and people should be discouraged from using individual vehicles.

        'The need of the hour is to bring in environmental solutions to issues like global warming, while the government is concentrating on road widening, airport expansion and on other activities,' she said.

        Tara Murali released a CD on, 'all good things begin with me', and senior vice president of Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals received it.

        State Environment Director, KS Neelakantan, president of Exnora International Sulochana Ramaseshan and founder of Exnora, MB Nirmal were among the others present at the event.
