The Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali on Sunday called
on Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil at the Raj Bhavan.

The Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali on Sunday called on Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil at the Raj Bhavan and handed over a memorandum, addressed to the Prime Minister.

The memorandum sought concessions for Muslims from the UPA government, with regard to promoting the educational and economic welfare of the Muslims in India, and urged the government to implement welfare schemes at the earliest.

The Prince pointed out that the growth of the Muslim segment of the Indian population is below even the Dalits in respect of economic status and educational attainments. He also requested the UPA government to create a 'Revolving Scholarship Fund' which may be given to deserving students, belonging to religious minorities, as refundable loan.

Technical education in particular has become prohibitively expensive. Muslims, who are at the lower rungs of the financial ladder, are unable to educate their wards because of financial constraints, he added.

The memorandum further added that a Minority Financial Development Corporation with a Rs 100 crore, as promised in one of the Congress election manifestoes be created, to give interest free loans towards starting small scale industries, business and trade by Muslims.

The Prince appealed to the Prime Minister in his letter to enable the Muslims to get an exclusive reservation of five per cent in the 30 per cent available for the general backward classes in Tamilnadu.
