Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasami today laid the foundation stone for an exclusive complex for the Union Territory at the premises of the Madras High Court.

To be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore, the Puducherry Complex would be a three-storied edifice with a built up area of 9,000 sq m located on an exclusive zone of 1.25 acre next to the High Court in the same premises.

Speaking at the function got up today, Rangasami said having a complex for the Union Territory near the Madras High Court which was rich with tradition and heritage was a matter of pride for him.

He recalled when there was a request from the High Court for a building in Puducherry, a 5-acre plot was allotted at prime space in which a complex was raised at a cost of Rs 12 crore. Where there was demand for additional facility, he had provided an adjoining 2-acre for a building which was being constructed at a cost of Rs 9 crore.

Rangasami thanked the Chief Justice A P Shah and Tamilnadu Chief Minister for clearing the proposal for Puducherry Complex at the High Court premises.

In his address, Shah recalled this project had been pending for the last four years, but had been cleared recently by the Tamilnadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and his counterpart Rangasami, who also sanctioned the funds for the complex. Once completed, the building would have six court rooms, offices for government pleaders, advocates' chambers and a canteen for the staff. Puducherry Law Minister Valsaraj, its PWD secretary A Anbarasu and High Court judges took part at the function.
