        Six devotees were killed on the spot and nine others were seriously injured when a lorry hit them near Dindigul in the wee hours of today.

        According to police, a 15-member group including eight women from Cumbum Pudupatti in Theni district were on a padayatra to Palani temple. The devotees were nearing Neelamalai bus- stand in the early hours of today when a speeding lorry went berserk and hit them killing six women on the spot and injuring nine others. The injured have been admitted to Government Dindigul hospital and Oddanchathiram government hospital.

        Oddanchathiram police registered a case in this connection and arrested the lorry driver Murugan.

        District SP Pari and DSP Kandavel visited the accident spot and made arrangements for shifting the injured to hospitals.
