It was an evening of renowned women who gathered at Abirami Chidambaram Community Welfare Arangam here on Friday to attend the function participated by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal who released the book Mahalir Mattum written by Dr Maheswari Ravi. The book was received by Indira Ramamoorthy, a doctor.
Speaking on the occasion, Social Welfare Minister Poongothai said that the book written in Tamil on paediatric problems was helpful for many women.
She further said it would be helpful for those students coming from rural areas and pursuing M B B S degree programme.
'Men should also read this book', the Minister said, adding that the men and women should have to go together for eradicating social injustices especially female infanticide.
After being felicitated, the author Dr Maheswari Ravi told her Malaysian experiences of working in the Women's Development Forum which motivated her to come out with such a book.
She also demanded the State government to have a separate Ministry for Women's Development.
PWD Minister Durai Murugan said that people now were well aware of the diseases and medications.
