        A youth alleged to have had an affair with a 14-year-old girl who was found dead with smashed head at a drainage canal near Surapattu, a city outskirt, is being interrogated by the police.

        When Murugan, a painter, and his wife Valli left for work yesterday, their five sons were at home located at Kathirvedu Ambedkar Nagar. But the couple's 14-year-old Roja was found murdered with head injury at a drainage canal of a lake near Surapattu. The public immediately alerted the Puzhal police who rushed to the scene and took possession of the body for sending it to Stanley Hospital for post-mortem.

        During the preliminary enquiry it was surmised that Roja might have been the target of attack by a youth during an attempt at molesting her when she was washing clothes at the channel. In the ensuing scuffle, Roja might have been hit with a boulder by the assailant, resulting in her death, police claimed.

        Also, it is being reported that the girl had regular contacts with a youth in the locality.

        During an attempt by the youth to molest her when she was alone at the drainage channel, she might have been killled with a boulder.

        Hence, the police have arrested that youth who is being grilled to reveal more on the case.
