        The mother of a child who was found dead in a canal has, during police interrogation, confessed to killing her three-month-old girl baby as she saw the infant as a bad omen.

        According to the police, the infant was the daughter of Anjuvarnanan and Uma, residents of Nesapakkam. After the baby's body was found, police interrogated her mother who said she flung the baby from the top floor of her house as she felt that since the girl's birth, her husband's business showed a dull trend and that she was afflicted by ailments. So, she decided to kill the child.
