There is a significant growth of Indian students enrollment in Australian educational institutions because quality education is available and easy work permits are made available, manager of IDP Education Australia Lyndon Joseph has said.
Joseph said this at an Australian education fair-cum- interview programme organised in Chennai on Wednesday.
The programme was organised by IDP Education Australia and it was supported by the Australian Trade Commission, government of Australia. Over 70 academics and representatives from 32 universities in Australia participated in the event.
Giving details, Joseph, said, 'there is a steady growth of Indian students' enrollment in Australian institutions as education expenses and living are not that expensive.'
In 2006, 75.9 per cent of international higher education enrollments came from Australia's top 10 markets with India accounting for 23.4 per cent. Enrollments from India remained high at 14.5 per cent in 2006, he said.
'Currently, about 42,000 Indian students are studying in Australia. As far as IDP is concerned there is a notable growth in student intake from Chennai. Close to 43 per cent of higher education enrollments are in business administration and management. The next largest field of study is computer science and information systems,' he added.
The event is conducted twice
a year and it is different from other educational fairs and exhibitions,
as students are pre-screened for eligibility and spot interviews are conducted.
'If students were found eligible, they are immediately provided with offer
letters. This year, 600 students have registered and 80 per cent of those
who register get spot admissions,' Joseph said.
