        Two people were crushed to death and equal number of them were injured when a lorry hit them near Kathipara junction, last night.

        According to police, Lalith Mohan (30) an engineer was to leave for Australia. He came to Chennai to visit his aunt at Nandambakkam.

        Mohan with his cousin Vikram (26) and his friend Austin (30) was returning home in a car. When he took a turn near Butt Road, a lorry which came in front lost control and collided with the car.

        The lorry also hit another car and a pedestrian Mariya (42). After the incident, the lorry driver escaped from the spot.

        Police said Mariya was a flower vendor at Butt Road. She was on her way to home when the accident occurred. Police admitted Vikram in a private hospital.

        However, Lalith Mohan and Mariya died on their way to Government General Hospital. Austin is undergoing treatment.
