IIT - Madras has singed an MoU with Amadasoft Pvt Ltd of Japan for joint endeavour in R&D between Ph D students and company engineers.
'Research and development programmes are essential for the promotion of scientific culture in India. It would help in producing scientists and engineers in different industries,' said Thanapandi Periasamy, CEO, Amadasoft at the sign-in function here yesterday. Amadasoft would develop algorithms in the field of sheet metals, their bending and related applications in metal technology. 'We consider India on par with other developed countries in the field of sheet metals,' he said.
Speaking on the occasion, IIT - Madras dean T T Narendran said the institute was planning to establish a research park at a cost of Rs 300 crore with best-in-class infrastructure in Chennai. The proposed facility would enable companies to set up their R&D labs and joint ventures for collaborative works.
The IIT promoted research
park would be geared up to impart training to industrial workforce and
the building would be completed by 2010, he informed. Narendran said the
government was toying with an idea to set up eight more IITs in the country
during the next Five Year Plan.
