A two-day campaign on water conservation and Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) was undertaken by Anna University students at Besant Nagar from 18 March. According to a press release, World Water Day is observed tomorrow. Out of total water available on earth only 2.7 per cent is fresh water.
The Media Science students in association with Centre for Empowerment of Women, Anna University conducted the save water awareness campaign at Odai Kuppam, Besant Nagar.
The campaign was inaugurated by the Director of Centre for Empowerment of Women, N K Ambujam and was presided over by president of Rotary Club of Madras Golden City G Poonkundran. Scores of people enjoyed the Karagaatam, Oyilaatam, Thappattam and drama which focused on the necessity to save water and harvest the rain water properly for the well being of the humankind. Also, an exhibition on RWH and conservational measures to preserve it effectively was held where several models and posters explaining the ways to preserve and conserve water were displayed in Tamil.
Apart from exhibition, several
contests were conducted for children and women and prizes were given to
them.
