DMDK founder Vijayakanth has said that if the State and Central governments did not take steps to curtail price rise, the protests organised by his party would take a different dimension.
Addressing the demonstrators during a protest here today, Vijayakanth said the spiralling price rise in the country was alarming.
'Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh himself has acknowledged this. And. Tamilnadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has also accepted it, and written to the Prime Minister in this regard, it is said.' But no action has been taken, he said.
The DMDK leader further said the price rise was borne out of hoarding of essentials and only if they were brought into the open market, would this problem see an end. In addition, he alleged that ration rice was being smuggled on a large scale. The ruling government was hushing up everything, he said.
The actor-turned-politician also criticised the State government for 'indirectly' raising the bus fare by introducing new yellow line and blue line services and termed the 'M' service as 'money' service.
On the Cauvery issue, Vijayakanth
said both former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and the present Chief Minister
M Karunanidhi were both trading charges and were not doing anything good
for the State.
