'Impeccable' Pratibha vs not so Shekawat!!

V SUNDARAM

The helpless common millions of India are delighted to learn from the newspapers that the BJP has released another booklet and a website against UPA Presidential nominee Pratibha Patil. Arun Jaitley, former Union Law Minister, has correctly described this action as a part of a campaign to provide an informed choice to the Electorate (in this context the Electoral College). The booklet, titled 'Presidential Election 2007 : A Candidate's Bio data,' is a compilation of reports and articles that have appeared in the media about the exemplary, pure as Sonia Congress Crystal and unsurpassed life of service and supreme self-sacrifice of Pratibha Patil. This new website www.knowpratibhapatil.com says: 'A weak and vulnerable President who owes her allegiance not to the Constitution of India but to the unaccountable 'Empress of India', and who is willing to sign on the dotted line could spell disaster for democracy in India. All of us know how one democratic institution after another — Parliament, State Legislatures, Judiciary at all levels, Civil Service, Political Executive, even the Office of the Prime Minister - has been devalued and enfeebled in India in recent times. What will happen to our democratic system, and to the Indian State, if even the office of the President of India is also similarly diminished?'

Sonia Congress, with the Super-Sonia as its president for a life time or till 2100 AD (whichever is later!!), presents a national and international picture of unabashed, unchecked and unfettered shamelessness and unscrupulousness on stilts. This party crookedly abetted by the other political gangsters if not criminals forming part of the UPA Coalition, have fielded a candidate like Pratibha Patil with questionable antecedents bordering on prima facie criminality. She and her family members cleverly diverted, if not misappropriated, public funds for private use in a Cooperative Bank, founded by her in Jale Gaon in Maharashtra which forced the Reserve Bank of India to order its closure about four or five years ago. Her husband is facing a criminal charge relating to murder in a Court of Law in Maharashtra. This glorious background of Pratibha Patil has been graphically presented in the BJP-sponsored website under the columns 'Cartoon,' 'Pratibhaspeak' and 'UPA Doublespeak'. Video clippings and documents connected with several allegations levelled against Pratibha Patil have come in the public domain.

The same website also declares with clarity and aplomb: 'Even though the people do not elect the Rashtrapathi, they have a vital stake in the Presidential poll since the winner will become head of the Republic of India. They have a right to know whether the likely winner is worthy of becoming the Head of State of the world's largest democracy. The need to know whether the person embodies, as far as possible, the lofty ideals enshrined in the Constitution of India, of which he or she will be the custodian, or he/she will be a rubber stamp of those who have catapulted him/her to the high Office.'

Who is responsible for promoting the candidature of Pratibha Patil? Like Hitler in Nazi Germany, like Stalin in Soviet Russia, like Mao Tse Tung in the People's Republic of China, Sonia Gandhi is aspiring to become the super dictator of India. Her base and vile attempt to super impose on our helpless nation a rubber stamp non-entity with questionable credentials as the President of India is going to constitute one of the darkest chapters in the chequered and troubled history of our sacred motherland.

Thus Indian humanity is in unprecedented peril of its own anti-people government and political parties today. Let me quote Solzhenitsyn whose singing and stinging words are wholly relevant to the current situation in our country: 'Publicity and openness, honest and complete - that is the prime condition for the health of every society, and ours, too. The man (alas in our country, a woman, is it not Sonia?!!) who does not want them in our country is indifferent to his fatherland and thinks only about his own gains. The man who does not want publicity and openness for his fatherland does not want to cleanse it of its diseases, but to drive them inside, so they may rot there.'

It has been reported in the press that the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is to host a dinner for ruling Coalition MPs at her residence next week. Seeing this known move, I am only reminded of the following timeless words of Shakespeare in Henry IV (Part I):

'Thou art only mark'd for the hot vengeance

        And the rod of heaven.

        Such inordinate and low desires

Such poor, such bare, such lewd, such mean attempts,

        Such barren pleasures, rude society,

And thou art match'd withal, and grafted to!'

Unable to meet the well-founded public and political criticism of the murky antecedents of Pratibha Patil, Sonia Gandhi has directed her servile if not supine political bearer in waiting, the AICC spokesman Abhishekh Singhvi to go on a cheap and vulgar offensive against Bhairon Singh Shekawat in these words: 'When people were giving up their jobs and plunging into the freedom movement in the wake of Mahatma Gandhi's Quit India call of 1942, Shekhawat joined the police force at that time. Those who live in glass houses should think twice before throwing stones.' All I can say about this jocular and puerile response of Abhishekh Singhvi is that his daily working motto relating to shady Congress affairs is this: 'I am not satisfied if you are already aware of the fundamental fact that I am a rare combination of a Congress serf and arch political clown. You can never deny me the special and unique privilege of proclaiming it myself every moment every day.'

Instead of asking the question as to why Sonia Gandhi should be driven to the political desperation of proposing a candidate with shady background for the office of the President of India, Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Das Munshi outwits Abhishekh Singhvi by asking the BJP hardliners: 'I dare you all to lodge an FIR or charge sheet against Pratibha Patil.'

It is laughable to see the childish responses from the Congress party against the series of valid allegations authentically brought out by the NDA. It seems the Central intelligence and the PMO and other State machineries have been roped in to dust the files of thirties and forties to invent some sort of insignificant allegations on Shekawat. The 1942 story on him is one such thing and it is height of stupidity on the part of the Congress party to come out with it.

Bhairon Singh Shekawat is a gentleman with a clean public record. The issue before the nation is whether we should have a Congress-sponsored candidate with criminal antecedents and without any conscience like Pratibha Patil or a gentleman with a proven track record of public service like Bhairon Singh Shekawat as the President of India. I can give a fitting reply to both Abhishekh Singhvi and P R Das Munshi in the clinching words of B R Haran:

'The same baseless allegation they are bringing up against Shekawat can be thrown on Jawaharlal Nehru also, as he had his education in Britain! There were many officers, including the relatives of Nehru, who served during the British rule and continued their services after independence in high posts. Can we say all of them were traitors? When we fought against the foreigners and attained freedom under the Indian National Congress party, is it not ironical that the same Congress party has again fallen under the feet of a foreigner? Can we call all the present day Congressmen as traitors? Even during the Vande Mataram Centenary celebrated by the Congress party recently, Manmohan Singh and Sonia did not participate at all and stayed away from singing the national song. Can't we charge them under treason? Similarly the 1976 FIR on Shekawat was filed during the time of 'emergency,' when the Congress party went on a spree of foisting false cases on not only opposition parties but also on its own internal adversaries like Chandra Sekhar. Shekawat's career spanning over 50 years of public service in different capacities has been exemplary and impeccable. Whereas, the allegations on Pratibha Patil seem to be authentic with a lot of documentary evidences and she had been directly and indirectly involved in a number of scandals, thanks to her noble and moral family members, throughout her career. While comparing the stature, image, qualification and track record between the two nominees, Vice-President Shekawat stands tall as a mountain, whereas, Prathiba vanishes into thin air as a molecule. It is a pity that the Congress leaders are being put into the hardship of defending the indefensible by their party president Sonia Gandhi and it is not wrong if we say that the Congressmen are actually defending their party president and not the Presidential nominee!
