Rotary Club gets woman president

        'Every Rotary Club member should contribute substantially to educate the girl child which is a priority to the club, make sure that 100 girls are educated by this year by our club, ' said Vasumathi Marimuthu, the newly elected president of the Rotary Club of Madras Mount R I Dist 3230.

        In her 'Acceptance Address' here yesterday, Vasumathi said that around 50 fisherwoman would be helped to be self- reliant and a primary health centre would be constructed by the club near Porur shortly.

        A sports meet for the prisoners is also on the anvil. Child abuse is another issue which is of crucial importance to the club, she said.

        District Governor A S Venkatesh and the former Vice-Chancellor of Tamilnadu Dr M G R University D Raja were also present on the occasion.

        The ceremony also witnessed the induction of the new office-bearers of her team.

        Members assembled at the gathering, especially the womenfolk were seen happy that a woman was elected to the post of president as that, according to them, would help women's empowerment.
