Keeping the deadline set by International Air Transport Association (IATA) - 31December, 2007 - national air carrier Indian launched its e-ticket facility yesterday.
Dr Vishwapati Trivedi, CMD, Indian, at a press conference, said Galileo India, one of the global distribution service providers (GDS), had been chosen by Indian for paperless ticketing. He said e-tickets in association with Galileo would be issued for flights departing from 11 cities to six metros.
He added: 'The initiative will not only help us simplify the business but will also result in convenience to passengers'. Responding to a query, he said e-ticketing would cover the entire network by March this year.
Trivedi also said the introduction of a state-of-the-art passenger services system would give customers a host of benefits like web check-in, self-service check-in kiosks.
Bruce Hanna, COO, Galileo India, said, 'this initiative will help travel agents enhance efficiency and productivity, as it will cut down ticketing requirements and consequently printing of flight coupons.' He further said it would eliminate ticket fraud and revenue leakage through automation of check-in and ticket change control'.
Galileo users can now issue
e-tickets for domestic travel for flights departing from Chennai, New Delhi,
Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Pune, Goa and
Bhuvaneshwar to the six Indian metros Chennai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad,
Kolkata and Mumbai.
