Nepal woos Indian tourists big time

Chennai, Jan 19:

        A number of tourists from India and other nations to Nepal has subsequently increased manifold during the past few years, according to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) marketing and promotion director Nandini Lahe Thapa.

        She was in Chennai yesterday to launch a new promotion campaign 'Visit Pokhara Year 2007', as part of its new brand Naturally Nepal - Once Is Not Enough which is aimed to further increase the number of Indian tourists to Nepal.

        Giving various details on the campaign and the state of tourism in Nepal to journalists, she said the campaign had been undertaken by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board and Pokhara Tourism Council.

        'Indian tourists accounted for 33 per cent growth in 2006 and considering this growth , the NTB has targeted to attract 35 per cent more tourists from India during this year,' she added.

        She said there were plans to increase the number of flights gradually. Already, 45 flights were operating a week from Delhi. Banaras, Mumbai and Bangalore.
