AIADMK to boycott Corpn re-election

        AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa today said her party would boycott the fresh re-elections going to be conducted to local bodies including those in the Chennai Corporation on 8 February. She also said the AIADMK would not take part in any poll till State Election Commissioner D Chandrasekaran continued to hold the post.

        In a strongly worded statement here, Jayalalithaa reiterated that all those involved in malpractices in the recently held civic polls including Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin, State Election Commissioner Chandrasekan, Director General of Police D Mukherjee, City Police Commissioner Letika Saran and Joint Commissioner of Police S R Jangid should either resign or be dismissed from the office of power they occupy.

        Stating that the Corporation Council meeting convened today by Deputy Mayor R Sathyabama was unfair, the former Chief Minister said the council should be dissolved immediately and everything should be handed over to the Corporation Commissioner.

        She also urged for fresh elections in all the 155 wards of the Chennai Corporation with military protection.
