The inaugural T S Santhanam Memorial National Veterans' Tennis Championships, organised by the Mylapore Club here will get underway 22 January.
The qualifying rounds get underway tomorrow at MCC, Gymkhana Club, the Egmore Stadium and the Mylapore Club.
The tournament is sponsored by the TVS Group of companies (Sundaram Finance, Madras Auto Service and Brakes India Ltd.) and events will be held in the above-45, above-55 and above-65 singles and doubles categories.
The total prize money for the tournament will be Rs. 5.5 lakh, with Yonex providing the balls. Rs 18,700 and 70 AITA points each are up for grabs for the singles winners, with 50 points and Rs 9,900 each of the doubles winners, the organisers said at a press meet here yesterday.
The chief referee P Narasimhan informed that so far around 300 entries had been received and some of the prominent players were V Shankar, R I Singh, K R Raman, P R Raju and Rammohan Rao.
The winner of the 45+ singles event will receive the T S Santhanam Memorial Rolling Trophy.

of T S Santhanam in promoting sports.
