        A passerby lost cash to a person in an auto at Thiruvanmiyur here last night.

        Police said Balaguru (74), a resident of Radhakrishnan Nagar at Thiruvanmiyur, was walking down Radhakrishnan Nagar 2nd Cross Street when an autorickshaw came close to him and the man in the passenger seat snatched the bag of Balaguru and sped away. The bag contained Rs 9,000 in cash, a train ticket and three bank passbooks. The victim lodged a complaint with the Thiruvanmiyur police station.

        Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahendrakumar Rathore and Assistant Commissioner Hari registered a case and have spread a dragnet for the auto-driver and the passenger in it.
