Now, the fusion of engineering fraternity with medicine has become inevitable.
One such initiative is trans-telephonic ECG monitoring which was launched, here, on Thursday by Frontier Lifeline Hospital and Dr K M Cherian Heart Foundation along with Airtel.
Speaking on the occasion, Frontier Lifeline Hospital's chairman and CEO Dr K M Cherian said this diagnostic tool, by simply carrying a
small recorder half the size of a computer mouse, would be helpful for facilitating the patients carry on with their routine activities and record the ECG during the time of a palpitation.
'This will be received by a specialist at a receiving station where he can diagnose with the ECG and take appropriate action', he said, adding that this facility was helpful when the cause of a palpitation is undiagnosed in a patient.
Dr Cherian also said that even invasive investigations like electrophysiology study were found to be unhelpful in about 20 per cent of cases.
'Vitatron, a company involved in manufacturing pace-maker, has been assigned for pursuing the educational programme on updates in pacing therapy for better patient management', he added.
Airtel's chief technical officer Sankaranarayana said the project, being a good, innovative one, had helped fuse engineering fraternity with medicine for better applications.
It is said that the cost of the facility would be Rs 5 lakh.
