        Space Hospitals, the telemedicine initiative to provide healthcare by using technology, plans to start a Space Pharmacy and Laboratories both in rural and semi-urban areas as part of its plan to widen its telemedicine service network throughout the country,

        Disclosing this and other proposed programmes of the hospital to the media here on Thursday, founder and chairman of Space Hospitals Venkataramani said, 'The mission of the hospital is to leverage technology, combine it with core competence of every medical professional, deliver timely attention to the needy at their doorstep even at inaccessible destinations'.

        'We came to know that substantial number of deaths in the non-semi urban areas occurred due to lack of specialist healthcare, and that was an eye- opener to ensure 'death of distance' through telemedicine and space pharmacies and build an economically sustainable commercial model, Venkataramani added.

        Speaking on the occasion, CEO of the hospital Sanjay Bhardawaj said, 'Space Hospitals recently completed a pilot project for government of India's Community Service Centre at Thittacheri and offered e-health services which was a success'. He further said, 'Capitalising on the success, we are into talks to provide a business model for extending the same facility and network across the country'.

        Elaborating on last year's growth, Venkataramani said, 'Our team has built an infrastructure of 15 top speciality care hospitals which are connected to more than 50 remote centres and helped more than 2,000 patients using our telemedicine facility'.

        Space Hospitals' existing associate hospitals are Madras Medical Mission, KG Hospitals, Coimbatore, KIMS, Hyderabad, Rockland, New Delhi, M V Diabetics, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, Asian Heart Research Institute, Mumbai, and Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad.
