Commotion prevailed for sometime at Anna University as there was a mad rush to buy the application forms for BE courses. The issue of applications commenced today.
Being an auspicious day, thousands of students thronged the university since wee the hours of today to get the forms.
With the government scrapping Common Entrance Test (CET) stating that admissions to professional courses will be based only on the marks scored by the students in the board examination, there was a huge crowd in the university.
Anna University Vice- Chancellor D Viswanathan inaugurated the sale of application forms and within two hours around 4,000 application forms were sold. In spite of the scorching heat, parents along with their children were seen standing in a long queue to buy the forms.
Apart from the university, the application forms were available at MIT, Chromepet, various branches of State Bank of India, Canara Bank and government engineering colleges across the State. The last date for the submission of filled in application form is 5 June.
Elaborating on the arrangements, the Vice-Chancellor said five counters had been opened to issue the application forms. Of them two counters were for SC / ST categories and others for general category.
For general category, students have to pay Rs 500 for the application form and for SC / ST it is Rs 250. Those seeking application forms through post for general category should take a Demand Draft for Rs 620 in favour of 'The Director, Admissions, Anna University, Chennai'.
Similarly, Adi Dravidar students should take a DD for Rs 370. For students from other States, they can visit the university website and download the application forms and apply. And for students seeking admission through special quota category, they should take a DD for Rs 100. All the filled-in applications should be sent to 'The Secretary, Tamilnadu Engineering Admissions, Anna University, Chennai - 25', the Vice-Chancellor said.
Meanwhile, students who had come to the varsity complained that the university failed to make necessary arrangements to provide the application forms. They cited that there was no proper shade and water facilities to them and the response from the university was poor.
Anna University would published
the ranklist on 25 June and the list of reserved category candidates on
30 June. Classes are scheduled to commence on 20 August.
